One of the best things about Hotel Le Crystal is its location. It’s located at the corner of rue de la Montagne and Boulevard René-Lévesque, right in the middle of Montreal’s business and shopping district. As a result, there’s an abundance of shopping and dining just steps from the hotel.

We stayed in a Deluxe King Suite, which has a king-sized bed in the private bedroom, and a queen-sized pull-out couch in the separate living area. The setup is great for families traveling with kids.

The bathroom was enormous. After a long day of walking around chilly Montreal, it felt fantastic to enjoy a bath in the super-deep soaking tub.

Note: If you’re traveling with a baby, it might be challenging to bathe them in the tub because it’s that deep. You could either get in the tub with them, or take them into the shower with you.

The hotel often caters to extended-stay travelers, so the suite offers a ton of storage. In addition to the closet pictured below, there’s another closet next to it with shelving from top to bottom, as well as two smaller closets in the bedroom. If you travel with a lot of stuff, this is good news.

If your family likes to have breakfast in your room before heading out for the day, you can make use of the kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and Nespresso machine. But there’s a great restaurant on-site that’s open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

There’s a decent selection of mini-bar items. Sidenote: Wouldn’t it be great if hotels always stored these items out of kids’ view? It would save so much begging and pleading.

The roomy suite also has a nice work area facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, great for catching up with email on the road.

And the dining table was small but comfortable. A perfect spot for kids to have a snack before heading out for a day of activities.

There were a ton of construction projects happening in Montreal when we were in town. The suite offers views of many of these almost-finished high-rise buildings.

You can find the same floor-to-ceiling windows in the gym, which makes it a really lovely place to work out. In the morning, there’s a ton of light streaming through. But in the evening, you get a fantastic view of the city’s twinkling lights.

The hotel also offers a full-service spa, though I didn’t get a chance to sample their services this time around.

If I could, there are two things I would change about the suite to make it even more family-friendly. First, I’d change the layout so that the bathroom was en suite. While the bathroom is all the way on the other end of the suite from the pull-out couch, I was still nervous about waking up our girls when we used the bathroom after they’d gone to bed. Second, I’d add a lock to the bedroom door. After all, parents need some privacy even on a family vacation!

Insider Tip 1:
Check out the pool and outdoor hot tub

You may not think to pack a swimsuit if you’re heading to Montreal, especially in the fall or winter, but if you’re staying at Hotel Le Crystal, you really should. Getting to splash around in the hotel’s heated indoor pool was one of the highlights of the trip for our girls. The hotel also has a fantastic outdoor hot tub, with great views of the city. We didn’t get to try it out this time around, since there was already a couple there enjoying it and we didn’t want to harsh their vibe. But next time it’ll be on my list. Steps from the pool, there are also two Swedish saunas—great for warming up before you head back to your room.

Insider Tip 2:
Enjoy Starbucks without even stepping outside

If you’re a Starbucks fan, you’re in luck. There’s a full Starbucks store right inside the hotel lobby. It’s super easy to get your caffeine fix!

Insider Tip 3:
Bring your pet with you

We don’t have or travel with pets but if you do, you’re welcome to bring your dog to Hotel Le Crystal. The property offers a Crystal Pet Kit with water, food bowls, and special treats for free. Keep in mind though, that the hotel will charge you a cleaning fee of $75 per stay.
