Conventional wisdom holds that family vacations are a contradiction in terms. Especially when said family includes a baby. But the Grand Velas Resort of Mexico’s glimmering Riviera Nayarit has set out to change all that—with spectacular results.
Set on Mexico’s sun-drenched west coast, where the breathtaking Sierra Madres slope gently into the Pacific, the Riviera Nayarit is Mexico’s newest travel destination and the Grand Velas resort is unquestionably its crown jewel.
A Leading Hotel of the World, the immaculate 267-suite property bills itself as “Beyond all-inclusive, beyond all compare.” And sure enough, when it comes to luxury family travel, Grand Velas sets the bar.
The Baby Concierge
Chosen by Travel + Leisure as one of the 19 Best All-Inclusive Family Resorts in 2016, the Grand Velas is proof that all-inclusives are not all created equal. Their baby policy is a case in point. A baby concierge is assigned to each family to coordinate everything from the crib, toys and bath products to the specially prepared organic food, nanny service and even an elaborate baby’s first haircut ceremony.
And if that weren’t enough, there’s always customized treatments from the hotel’s world-class spa. Giving baby the real VIP treatment, the Grand Velas Sunrise Massage is designed to stimulate baby’s central nervous system while promoting cognitive development, sensory perception and total, unadulterated bliss.
But why should the pre-school set have all the fun? While baby is busy being pampered or napping under a nanny’s watch, their older brothers and sisters (ages 4 to 12) can have the run of the place thanks to the Grand Velas Kids Club, which will pack their days with enough beach activities, arts, crafts, games, books and movies to make sure you don’t have to hear the word “mom” for hours. There’s even a kids disco and soda shop that looks like it came right off the set of Saved by the Bell.
Taste the Difference
Grand Velas sets itself apart with a selection of AAA Four Diamond Award fine dining restaurants. Depending on your mood, on any given evening, you can indulge in elevated Mexican at Frida, dine on escargots and beef bourguignon at Piaf, or take a break from the paleo and give in to your pasta craving at Lucca. Suffice to say, this is one all-inclusive where every dinner experience is well worth throwing your diet out the window.
Each restaurant offers a rare combination of world-class chef, impressive views and chic decor, to say nothing of the remarkable service that you’ll quickly come to take for granted during the course of your stay. And who can forget the drinks? The restaurants’ bartenders go way beyond the usual margaritas, mojitos and mai tais, delivering mixologist-caliber martinis, Manhattans and Moscow Mules that will have you feeling right at home.
The Suite Life
Speaking of home, the Grand Velas suites are so comfortable, so ideally situated, you may just want to put yours on the market and stay forever. Available in 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom layouts, the light-filled, family-friendly suites boast tasteful Balinese teak furniture as well as terraces and balconies that all look out onto sprawling ocean views.
This being an all-inclusive, the mini-bars are always fully stocked and if you choose to dine on your private terrace, an extensive menu and in-suite room service is available around the clock.
Dine in, lunch poolside or walk over to the restaurant? So many decisions…it’s a good thing the resort has daily yoga classes and a full-service hydrotherapy spa to help you unwind. If you could only figure out whether to get that massage at the spa or on your oceanfront terrace…now, that’s what we call a 5-star problem.
