I’ve always felt that it’s important to make Mother’s Day special for the important women in our lives, and that’s not just because I’m a mom. I’ve seen moms do more than they ever thought they could for their kids. I’ve seen aunts and grandmothers step up to fill the role of mom when it was needed. I’ve seen sisters become co-moms to kids because their mother had to work. Good moms make the world go ’round, so when Mother’s Day is here, it’s nice to let them know just how important they are.
Ways We Can Make Mother’s Day Special
Moms, aunts, sisters, daughters – all of these women can and should be celebrated on Mother’s Day because they are all moms. Whether it’s your mom, your sister who’s a mom, or your favorite grandmother, I think it’s important to celebrate them. Here are a few ideas to help make them feel special on this special day.
1. A Hand-Written Letter
In an age of emails and snaps and other quick and easy communication methods, taking the time to write a hand-written letter to that special mom or mom-figure in your life can be such a special gift. You could have written an email, but instead, you took the time to pen a letter to your mom to show her how special she is to you.
2. A Day of Rest
The mothers in our lives—biological or otherwise—do so much for us, why not make Mother’s Day a time when we do for them? Set her up with all of her favorite snacks, magazines, shows, or whatever she’s into, and do the mom duty for the day. Husbands can make meals. Kids can do more cleaning. It’s nice to have a break.
3. Flowers and Candy
It’s an oldie, but a goodie. I know when I get flowers and candy, I feel extra special. The combo of candy and flowers satisfies all the senses, and it’s just a sweet thing to do.
4. Tell Her She’s Pretty
Husbands, this falls closely behind flowers and candy. There’s a reason women say, “Bring me chocolate and tell me I’m pretty”. I mean, we are literally giving you a map of what we want. Follow it. 😉
5. Breakfast in Bed
What mom wouldn’t love breakfast in bed? None. The answer is none. Breakfast in bed says, “Hey, mom. You are so special to us. You do everything for us, but today, we do it for you.” And one of my favorite breakfast in bed ideas to make Mother’s Day special is a breakfast featuring Bays English Muffins with a strawberry-balsamic and ricotta smear. English muffins are easy to make, easy to eat, and there’s not much chance for a big mess in the bed. Hey, it’s not like we can shut off the mom thoughts!
BAYS has four varieties of English muffins, so you can pick the one that your mom or wife will love the most for this recipe – original, sourdough, multi-grain, or honey wheat. Husbands, let me save you some time. You’ll find these muffins in the refrigerated case next to the eggs. So make an excuse to get to the store, snag some BAYS, and make this tasty smear for a very special Mother’s Day.
Strawberry-Balsamic & Ricotta Smear
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (may substitute with whipped cream cheese)
- 1 4-ounce package goat cheese
- 3 teaspoons grated lemon rind, divided
- 4 BAYS English Muffins, split
- 8 medium strawberries, trimmed, sliced
- 2 1/2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- *1 large lemon will make approximately 3 teaspoons of grated rind
Mix ricotta cheese, goat cheese and 2 teaspoons of the lemon rind. Toast English muffins. Spread about 2 tablespoons of ricotta mixture onto each muffin half, and top evenly with strawberries. Drizzle with glaze and sprinkle muffins with remaining 1 teaspoon lemon rind, salt, and pepper.
