A mere 2-hour direct flight from DC, Orlando was only too easy a choice to decide on for a long weekend escape with my husband and our lovely and rambunctious 2-year-old daughter. As much as we love grand overseas adventures, sometimes we just want to get away for a few days.
I don’t think we could have chosen a better hotel than The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes (read reviews on TripAdvisor | book here). As Ritz-Carltons go, this specific location was a bit more laid back and family-friendly; more casual than what I am used to at a Ritz but perfect for us to say the least.
Situated on a scenic lake, golf course and spa it shares with a JW Marriott, it is a beautiful setting that almost makes you feel that you have left the country.
We were lucky enough to stay on the prestigious lounge level of the hotel. As an avid traveler, I know the frustrations of feeding our child something other than granola bars when stuck in a hotel in between meals.
If you are not familiar with the Ritz-Carlton Lounge, it is time you learned! For an extra cost and based on availability, the Ritz-Carlton has a lounge level that includes access to a beautiful 24-hour lounge with unlimited soft and hard drinks, breakfast, light lunch, light dinner and desserts and snacks to bring back to your room. I have a terrible sweet tooth and you wouldn’t believe some of the sweet treats they offer—goodbye diet!
The concierges were all lovely, recommending all sorts of activities for us to do with our child and just being a delight to speak to.
For children there is a wonderful kids club on site where you can drop your older children (4 and up) off to get some alone time. For us this wasn’t an option but they have an open hour we took full advantage of every morning! My daughter had a wonderful time feeding their chickens and doing all of the crafts they offered. After our first day they even sent an adorable goodie bag up to our room.
The Ritz pool is gorgeous with ethereal fountains but we actually spent a lot of time at the lazy river next door at the Marriott.
