Review: Energy Clinic Spa at Kempinski Hotel Adriatic in Croatia

Based in the heart-shaped Istrian peninsula, the Kempinski Hotel Adriatic Istria Croatia was the first-ever five-star luxury seaside golf and spa resort to be built in Croatia.

I was recently invited to visit the property as part of the 15-year anniversary celebration of the hotel’s famous Energy Clinic Spa.

Energy Clinic is a chain of holistic spas in Croatia, Montenegro, and Germany. The spas use a mix of contemporary western and traditional Chinese medicine to provide their clients with energy, relaxation and enjoyment.

Celebrities including Mick Jagger, Donatella Versace, Richard Gere, Mario Testino, and Pierce Brosnan have frequented Energy Clinic spas.

(And if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, Energy Clinic is one of the few places you will ever see a Stark and a Lannister getting along! The cast can frequently be seen at the Dubrovnik, Croatia location.)

After settling into my suite with a breath-taking coastal view and smart control technology, I headed down to the spa for a quick tour before meeting with the founder of Energy Clinic.

Named after a type of Mediterranean olive, the Greco-Roman style Energy Clinic Carolea Spa is spread over 32,000 square feet and features an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi and two outdoor pools.

It houses separate beauty, treatment and relaxation areas, six single treatment rooms, two couple treatment rooms, two couple treatment suites, the Mediterranean suite, a manicure and pedicure room, a flotation tank, a steam bath, a salt cabin steam bath, a bio sauna, a Finnish sauna, an ice cabin, a Kneippp bench and Kneipp walk as well as the original Turkish hamam bath and rasul.

The Roman bath area includes different saunas and a Roman plunge pool. Set across two floors of the hotel, it really was one of the most impressive spas I’ve ever experienced.

That evening I embarked upon Energy Clinic’s Inner Wellness Program.

This started with a one-on-one medical consultation with a trained specialist who identified the source of any aches and pains I was experiencing then, based on the results of this consultation, I was given acupuncture by a naturopathic doctor tailored to my body’s needs.

Following the acupuncture session I was treated to a full body massage, a traditional hamam, and unlimited access to the spa facilities.

Each morning commenced with a 45-minute yoga session in the hotel’s relaxation room. I was also treated to a local wine and olive oil tasting session at a beautiful vineyard in the Istrian town.

One of the highlights of the trip was the two hour golf session at the hotel’s charming 18-hole golf course overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The courses amenities include a driving range, putting and chipping areas, gold pro-shop and the Club House with a restaurant and golf bar.
